What’s new in GATE 2013???

GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is an all India examination administered and conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB) - GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, for admission to Post Graduation/PhD courses in Engineering and Architecture.

GATE has a few changes in its 2013 edition. Let’s take a look at what’s new:

Changes in GATE 2013

  • 15 papers (i.e AE, AG, AR, BT, CE, CH, CY, GG, MA, MN, MT, PH, TF, XE, and XL ) out of the total 21 subject papers of GATE will be conducted by an online computer based test on 20th Jan 2013. The remaining papers would have an offline GATE exam on 10th Feb 2013.
  • Female candidates don’t need to pay the GATE 2013 application fee, as required by MHRD, Govt. of India.
  • All candidate related information and grievance redressal will be available in a single GATE Online Applicant Interface.
  • Soft copies of photograph and signature must be uploaded during online application (This is in addition to sending recent photograph of applicant with signed application).
  • A new formula will be used for calculating the GATE score.
  • Biometric information (Photograph and fingerprint) may be captured on the day of the examination for randomly selected candidates.

  • GATE 2013 Online Examination for Papers (AR, CE, GG, MA, MT, PH and TF)-20 Jan 2013(9am – 12 noon)
  • GATE 2013 Online Examination for Papers (AE, AG, BT, CH, CY, MN, XE and XL)-20 Jan 2013(2pm – 5pm)
  • GATE 2013 Offline Examination for Papers (CS, ME and PI)-10 Feb 2013(9am – 12 noon)
  • GATE 2013 Offline Examination for Papers (EC, EE and IN)-10 Feb 2013(2pm – 5pm)
  • Announcement of GATE 2013 results on Online Applicant Interface-15 Mar 2013(10am)

GATE tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in Engineering and Technology. The number of aspirants is rising every year. Candidates have increased from a mere 1.8 lakh in 2008 to 7.7 lakh in 2012. Due to higher number of candidates, the competition will surely be tougher which further results in sluggish recruitment in the IT industry.
